Role Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
- Proven leadership experience in the Engineering function, ideally within a fast-paced small/medium company environment
- Strategic thought leadership, delivering performance improvements, and driving positive behavioural changes.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Technical proficiency in Engineering disciplines
Role Responsibilities
To excel in this senior position, the successful candidate should demonstrate the following competencies, which will drive their responsibilities and contribute to the success of the role.
Leadership
- Provide clear, positive, and visible leadership to Senior Management and the Engineering team.
- Act as an active member of the company Leadership team, contributing towards wider company strategy and objectives.
- Execute company expansion plans in conjunction with Senior Management.
- Act as a point of contact for escalation of engineering matters.
Project Management
- Coordinate, direct, and track projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
- Act as a Project Manager for specific projects when required.
- Ensure a consistent approach is used for hardware and software Management of Change across all projects.
Technical Expertise
- Deliver technical engineering advice to senior management which will impact all areas and locations.
- Analyse technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
- Manage and coordinate hardware and software with the head of R&D activities.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as UL, IEC, etc.
Communication and Collaboration
- Liaise with Senior Management, Engineering, R&D, Sales, and Marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
- Work closely with other department heads across the business.
- Represent engineering teams in the S&OP process.
Strategic Thinking
- Contribute to the wider company strategy and objectives.
- Identify and build technical talent.
- Incorporate new best practice ways of working and implement them into the existing fast-paced Engineering environment.
People Management
- Recruit employees, assign, direct, evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
- Mentor team members and managers.
- Identify and organize relevant training to meet staff and business needs.
- Manage the team’s resources, current and projected future demand loading.
- Recruitment of staff for the engineering team.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making
- Analyse technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Implement and manage QA/QC processes within the engineering department, in conjunction with the quality team.
- Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Planning and Organization
- Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
- Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts in conjunction with Senior Management.
- Manage the development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department or on site.
Continuous Improvement
- Proven ability to incorporate new best practice ways of working and implementing into existing fast-paced Engineering environment.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with procurement in times of supply chain pressures.
- Act as a point of contact for escalation of engineering matters.
- Represent engineering teams in the S&OP process.
